Elizabeth (Betty) A. Heaney Charmello, 86, a lifelong resident of Kingston, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Northern Dutchess Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late David & Mary Kohler Heaney. She was a 1944 graduate of Kingston High School. Betty was a very devout catholic and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She worked for Montgomery Wards & Britts Department Store, before working and retiring from Ulster Savings Bank. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, a lunch room monitor for St. Mary's School and volunteered for the board of elections on election day in the cities old 3rd Ward. In her retirement years, Betty and her husband Louis, enjoyed camping at Lake George.
Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years, Louis J. Charmello of Kingston, whom she married on October 26, 1947, three sons, Robert L. Charmello and his wife Sharon of Kingston, Joseph G. Charmello and his wife Carol of Ruby and David C. Charmello of Myrtle Beach, SC, four grandchildren, Robert T. Charmello, Danielle M. Sickler, Angela P. Charmello and Cortney L.Charmello. Four great grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexandra, Olivia, Jack and many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by a brother, Robert Heaney and a sister, Dolores Maggiore.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9.
The funeral procession will form on Tuesday from the funeral home at 8:45 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
