Bette A. Lane

KINGSTON Bette A Lane, 73, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at her home in Kingston. Born March 16, 1938 in Brooklyn, she was the pride of her parents Benjamin B and Lillian (Kalman) Tolces. Bette was a Speech Pathologist working in the Home Care field for 24 years in Brooklyn, for 14 years in Miami, FL and locally, in the Kingston area for 7 years until her retirement. She is survived by her sons, Scott and Brian Lane, her best friend and favorite child, Lady, the Cocker Spaniel who has been faithfully by her side for the past 21 years, and many cousins and friends around the world. Bette achieved a degree of "Master of Science in Speech and Theater (Speech Pathology and Audiology)" from Brooklyn College as well as both the "Basic Clinical Certificate in Speech" and the "Certificate of Clinical Competence" from The American Speech and Hearing Association and she obtained a license, from The University of The State of New York, under their seal in Albany to practice as a Speech Pathologist in the State of New York. She was also registered by The State Education Department, Commissioner of Education. Bette took great pride in her own personal education including her diploma from Adelphi Academy and her Degree from Syracuse University in addition to her advanced degrees and certifications already mentioned. Bette enjoyed playing Contract Bridge for over 50 years and had achieved the status of Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League. Over the past 10+ years, through the internet, Bette was able to play Contract Bridge online with players from around the world, including many Grand Life Masters and she ranked, in many of these tournaments, in the top 5, several times achieving First Place! This was one of many crowning achievements in her life. Bette was also an avid lover, player and follower of the game of tennis. She played the game for many years and throughout her life, always followed the major tournaments. If you ever wanted to know who the top seeded players were, which tournaments were coming up and on what channel they would be broadcast, the answer was always "ask Bette". She was always very generous of her time and resources and was someone you could count on for a straight and honest answer to a question. Due to the fact that Bette generously donated her body to medical science through the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany College, there will be no funeral service, but the family requests memorial donations be made to the World Wildlife Fund at http://www.worldwildlife.org/.
