Bertha Popowich

Bertha Popowich, 90, of 1st Street, Connelly, NY, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Fern cliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, NY. She was born April 22, 1918 at Manhattan, NY to the late Erich and Sophie Yonke Kraatz.

She was married to George R. Popowich who died on Sept. 17, 1983. She had been an Inspector for Hercules Powder Co. retiring in 1983.

Bertha was a member of Town of Esopus Senior Citizens had served as president; Lake Katrine Leisure Club; Town of Esopus Lighthouse Committee and one of the longest members of the Lighthouse Maid of the Meadows; member Ladies Auxiliary Connelly Fire Department, where she had served twice as president and was a member of the Klyne Esopus Historical Society, and the AARP;

She is survived by s son, Philip E. Kyritz, Poughkeepsie, NY; Son, George "Ron" Popowich, Connelly; Cousin, William Schwetzke, NC, 3 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren. Predeceased by her brother, Erich Kraatz.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where services will be held on Tuesday at 10 am. Burial will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, May 19 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9
