Bernard ''Apples'' F. Cokeley, 82 of Port Ewen, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at The Kingston Hospital. He was born December 3, 1929 in Pelham Bay, NY to the late Harry and Marie (Baker) Cokeley.
He was married to his wife of 57 years, Rosemary (Tarantino) Cokeley; they wed on June 12th 1954.
Apples served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx, NY and then attended NYU. Apples worked as a police officer for the NYPD for many years before retiring in 1972.
He was a member of the Town of Esopus American Legion and Presentation RC Church in Port Ewen.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Bernard T. Cokeley and his wife Catherine of City Island, NY, Michael A. Cokeley and his wife Christine of Katonah, NY, and Marialice C. Pagnotta and her husband Michael of Port Ewen, grandchildren, Thomas, Christopher, Lauren and Rebecca Cokeley and Christopher Pagnotta.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, NY 12466 where friends may call on Monday from 7 - 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 10 am at Presentation RC Church, Port Ewen with Father Carl Johnson, officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Ewen .
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Presentation RC Church, Father Kelly Drive, Port Ewen, NY 12466 or Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, 55 Broadway, Ste. 302, New York, NY 10006.
