Southport, NC - Beatrice V. Cullum of Trailwood Drive died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Dosher Nursing Center. She was 93.
A longtime resident of Kingston, NY, she moved to Southport in 2001.
She was born March 20, 1912 in Saugerties, NY a daughter of the late Philip Elmer and Edith Maria Snyder Van Vlierden.
Mrs. Cullum graduated from Kingston High School and the University of the Sate of New York Normal School at New Paltz. She was a middle school teacher in the Kingston Consolidated School District for forty-one years.
She was an accomplished bridge player, accumulating master points. An avid golfer and a longtime member of the Wiltwyck Golf Club, she won the women's club championship in 1959, was Senior Club Champion in 1973 and 1975 and the winner of the Ulster County Senior Women's Championship in 1985, She also had three holes in one, the last at age 80.
Her husband Robert C. Cullum died in 1957.
Surviving is her son, Philip M. Cullum and his wife Ann of Southport, NC, her sister, Nancy Oppenheimer of Reading, MA, three grandsons, Michael P. Cullum and his wife, Kathryn of Yelm, WA, Brian C. Cullum of Kansas City, MO and Steven J. Cullum of Port Orchard, WA. Four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother, Leslie I. Van Vlierden died previously.
A memorial service will be held at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home with inurnment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston, NY at a date to be announced.
