Beatrice D. Simmons departed this life on August 2, 2013, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born Daisy Beatrice Irvins, Beatrice Simmons was a gift from God, given to the late Joseph and Eula Irvins on March 12, 1932, in Bronx, New York. Lovingly known as "Bea", she was the youngest of four children. From the start, Bea was vibrant, witty, fun-loving, willful, adventurous, and full of life.
Intelligent with the "gift of tongue," Bea completed high school in 1948, at the age of sixteen. The following year, she married Alfred Irin Miller, Sr. On March 19, 1950, Bea gave birth to their first child, Deborah Geneva. Their son, Alfred Irin, Jr., was born on September 5th of the following year.
Alfred Sr. passed away in 1985, and Beatrice married Albert Simmons, who also preceded her in death.
In 1995, Bea relocated to Kingston, NY to care for her mother and youngest granddaughter. She tirelessly cared for her mother until her passing in May 1996. After that, Bea worked seasonally at Fleet Bank in Kingston, where she made a number of acquaintances and a lasting impression. When her only son, "Brother", passed in January 2003, the loss turned her world upside down, and she withdrew from it only interacting with her daughter, Deborah and her grandchildren. It was the accepting of Jesus Christ as her personal Savior with her granddaughter that finally gave Bea the comfort and peace she sought.
She was preceded in death by her three siblings, and a number of other family members and close friends. Bea believed her beloved cousin, Gladys, went ahead and like her mother and son were waiting on her. She leaves behind a host of family and friends who will sorely miss her.
Bea is mourned by her daughter, Deborah; daughter-in-law, Arlelia; son-in-law, Julius; five grandchildren: Asia, Sharifa (Melvin), Tameika, Demetrius and Monica (Elias); nine great-children: Chanse, Juanita, Arlelia, Tameika, Daniel, Demetrius Jr., Daniella, Chanse and Christopher; two aunts, Frances and Belle; three nieces, Teresa, JoAnn and Cynthia (Luis); one nephew, Carl; grand-nephews: Irin, Luis, James, Omari, Kyle, Kevin and William II; grand-nieces Yesenia (Michael) and Kristina (Gabriel), and a number of cousins, great-cousins, and a host of other family and friends. Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston where friends will be received on Wednesday from 10 - 1 PM at which time funeral services will be conducted.
