Barbara C. Karaffa

Barbara Marie Cism Karaffa, 92, formerly of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, and Stone Ridge, New York passed away May 9, 2021, surrounded by family in New Paltz, New York.

Barbara was born in Beacon, New York on July 14, 1928, she was the daughter of Franklin Pierce and Lillian Lawson Cism. She was raised in Beacon and graduated from Beacon High School and later attended Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie, New York. On May 3, 1953, she married Joseph Peter Karaffa in Beacon, New York.

Barbara worked for IBM for several years then she and her husband established and operated So-Hi Campground in Stone Ridge, New York for 32 years. She and Joseph would spend their winters at their home in Fort Pierce, Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Joseph Peter Karaffa, her brother Franklin P. Cism Jr., sister Joan Cism Wheeler, and granddaughters Jennifer Mare Gordon Christiano, Caitlin Mary, and Kristen Anna Karaffa.

She is survived by her sister Patricia Cism Scofield, and her children, Kathleen Gordon, Stephen Karaffa (Cathy), Robert Karaffa (Kristie), Susan Richard (William), and Paul Karaffa (Tracy), 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 step grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements entrusted Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401 where family and friends may visit on Friday May 14, 2021 from 10am to 11am. At 11am the funeral procession with form and proceed to St. Peter's RC Church, 1017 Keator Ave., Rosendale, NY 12472 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12pm. Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, NY.
