Audrey Inskip Nicolas of Holland Drive, West Hurley passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Health Alliance, Broadway in Kingston. She was 89.
Audrey was born in Maltby, Yorkshire, England on June 28, 1923. She was the daughter of Albert and Irene Bennett Inskip. Audrey was raised in Nottingham Sherwood, England. She worked for the government in England during World War II. It is Nottingham where she met Thomas W. Nicolas who was serving in the U.S. armed forces and he was stationed in England. They were married on January 8, 1945 nearing the end of WWII. Audrey came to the United States a year later as a war bride. She and Thomas settled in Ohio for the first few years of their marriage and eventually moved to Illinois where they lived for many years raising their eight children. In 1987, the family moved to West Hurley and Audrey has lived there for the past 25 years.
A loving wife and devoted mother, Audrey will always be remembered as a wonderful homemaker, baker, cook who dearly loved her family and her pets and had a heart as big as the ocean she crossed to come here.
Audrey was the beloved wife of Thomas W. Nicolas who passed away on August 8, 2010 after a marriage that lasted 65 years. She was the loving mother of Richard Nicolas of Pana, IL, Debby Bunning of Charleston, W. Virginia, Wendy Boys of Shelbyville, IL, Roger Nicolas of Tampa, Florida, Randy Nicolas of Pana, IL, Bonnie Gilman of Hurley, NY, Michael Nicolas of West Hurley, NY, and Thomas W. Nicolas II who passed away on February 20, 2008. She was the special grandmother of Rachel Audrey Gilman of Hurley, NY. She was the sister of James A. Inskip of Nottingham, England. Audrey had 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. A service of sharing in celebration of Audrey's life will begin at 3:00PM.
