Arthur Cross, Sr.

Arthur E. Cross, Sr., 86, of Esopus, NY, passed away suddenly Monday, June 5, 2023. He was born on October 31, 1936 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Lewis and Jenny (Otis) Cross. He married the late Frances Alice Gaddis on Sept 19, 1959, Frances passed away on October 11, 2006.

Art was a Kingston High School Graduate, Class of 1955 and served his country in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959. In 1964 Art went to work for Hudson Cement Company in East Kingston as a machinist. He later worked for the Town of Esopus Highway Department for many years, becoming Superintendent in 1992 and retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Ulster County Association of Town Superintendents of Highways where he served as president for 9 years and was a seven year member of the Executive Committee N.Y.S. Association of Town Superintendent of Highway Inc. which represented 692 towns in the state. In 2006 & 2007 he was "Clerk of the Works" for the construction of the new Town of Esopus Library which was completed under budget and on time.

After retirement Art enjoyed restoring classic cars and extensive traveling with his significant other, Dolores DeGregoria. They traveled to Italy, Ireland, and all across the US.

Art is survived by his sons, Steven Cross and his wife JoAnn of Esopus, and Brian Cross and his wife Kimberly of Palmer Lake, CO, his grandchildren, Stevee Lyn Cross, Heather Cross, Brian Cross, Benjamin Cross, Emily Cross, and Catherine Cross, his great grandson, Isaiah, and his significant other, Dolores DeGregoria. In addition to his spouse and parents, Art is predeceased by his son, Arthur E. Cross, Jr.
