Antonio V. "Tony" Mattero of Dick Williams Lane, Ulster Park died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 80.
He was born in Brooklyn, a son of the late Antonio V. and Josephine Mattero. Mr. Mattero served in the US Army during WW II. He belonged to the American Legion, Kingston Post #150.
A longtime area resident, Mr. Mattero volunteered for the American Red Cross, Hospice, and the Golden Hill Health Care Center. He was a transporter for Family of Woodstock and belonged to the Banner of Love Christian Fellowship.
He worked as a security guard for Shire Reeve Security.
His first wife, Carmela Brillante-Mattero died May 19, 1993. His second wife, Martie Meade-Mattero died November 14, 2007. Two daughters Josephine Regan and Carol Mattero both died previously.
Surviving are his former wife, Lois Willstadt Mattero of Texas; eight daughters Sara Delaria of the Bronx, Mable Irizarry of Brooklyn, Helen Bohlinger of Ulster Park, Rose Wilson of Sawkill, Sue Mattero of Sawkill, Lillian Mattero of Brooklyn, Dawn Stykes of Dallas, TX and Michelle Pinela of Dallas, TX; one son Christopher Mattero of Bristol, CT; several brothers and sisters in Italy; step-children, step-grandchildren, 18 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Saturday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will then be conducted at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties at a later date.
