Annemarie Kurtz

June 15, 1941 — December 5, 2024

Annemarie (Brandt) Kurtz 83 of Hurley passed away December 5, 2024 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. She was born June 15, 1941 in Kuzura Yugoslavia to the late Michael and Theresa (Brauchler) Brandt. Her only sibling Martha and father died during World War II. The family was forced to flee as Russian soldiers advanced through their village and her mother Theresa was briefly held in a Russian labor camp. Eventually they settled near Cologne Germany. In 1952 they emigrated to the U.S. and settled in NYC. Her mother remarried in 1958 to Jacob Ziwich. In 1959 Annemarie married Fred Kurtz Sr. and moved to Hurley, NY where she raised three sons, Mitchell (Albany, NY), Fred Jr. (Colleen) of Greenwich, NY and Steven Kurtz (Hurley, NY). 

Annemarie was a devoted mother and wife who took her faith and relationship with her heavenly father very seriously and helped instill this deep faith in her sons. She was a member of Hurley Reformed Church for 61 years where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Women’s Guild and Stone House day committee. She was an incredible cook and baker taking great joy in feeding her family. 

Annemarie worked with disabled children as a teacher’s aide for over 20 years and retired from ARC (Brookside School) in 2003. After her retirement she became instrumental in the lives of her grandchildren, Alyssa Kurtz and Brandt Kurtz of Hurley. She is also the grandmother of Logan Kurtz (Nicole) of Saratoga Springs and Noah Kurtz (Carly) of Saratoga Springs. In August 2024 she became a great grandmother to Otto Kurtz son of Logan and Nicole. 

In addition to the aforementioned, Annemarie is survived by her husband Fred A. Kurtz, Sr., brother Jack Ziwich (Linda) of Tillson, NY, two nieces Rachael Ziwich and Leah Ziwich, four nephews: Jake Ziwich, Karl Wygant, Glen Wygant and Fred Wygant as well as many great nieces and nephews. 

Entrusted to the care of Keyser funeral home Kingston, NY a celebration of life and the hope and promise of the resurrection will be given at Hurley Reformed Church 11 Main St. Hurley, NY on Friday December 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Hurley Cemetery 69-91 Zandhoek Rd. Hurley, NY. 

The family would like to express gratitude for the love and care Annemarie received from the hard working staff at Tenbroeck Commons Nursing Home. The family will be forever grateful for the outstanding care she received.
