Anne N. Connelly, 89, of Hurley NY died peacefully at home on Friday, October 25, 2013.
Born in Kingston, Anne was the daughter of the late Martin and Juletta Netter and the wife of Thomas D. Connelly who died in 2007.
Anne was an education advocate, spending over 20 years working as a teacher, social worker, guidance counselor and school principal. She earned a Bachelor's in teaching from SUNY New Paltz in 1945, a Masters Degree in School Guidance in 1966 from SUNY Albany, and a Certification in School Administration from Syracuse University in 1975.
Anne served as Chair of the Advisory Board for the U.S. Air Force Academy, 32nd Congressional District from 1974 to 1980. She was on the Board of Directors of SUPPORT, a service to help pregnant teens. She also served on the Board of Directors of St. Vincent DePaul Day Care in Syracuse NY.
A parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Anne served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was a member of the Benedictine Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Parish Council for Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville NY.
She is survived by her four children, Stephen P. Connelly and his wife Sarah of Malvern PA, Denise Johnson and her husband Paul of Toledo OH, Thomas J. Connelly of Los Angeles CA, and Cornelia Denvir and her husband Sean of Kingston NY. She has ten grandchildren, Danny, Casey, Stephen, Anne, Ellen, Tommy, Greg, Matt, Audrey and Brendan, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Thomas and one grandchild, Timothy Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday November 1, 2013 from 3pm to 6pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Thomas D. and Anne N. Connelly Scholarship Fund at SUNY Ulster College Foundation.
