Anna L. Whitbeck, 96, a long time resident of Kingston N.Y. passed away on April 8th at the Sunrise Senior Living in Silver Spring, MD, of natural causes, where she lived for the past four years.
She attended Kingston schools and graduated from New Paltz Normal (SUNY New Paltz) where she received both her Bachelor of Science and Masters in Science degrees. She began her long teaching career in a one room school in Bearsville, NY. From 1939 until her retirement in 1976, Anna Whitbeck was a teacher in the Kingston School System. She taught fifth grade at the #2 school and finished her career at the #8 Sojourner Truth School.
Ms. Whitbeck was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingston, Past President of the Fellowship Guild, Kingston Retired Teachers, Ulster County Retired Teachers Association, New York State Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the YWCA.
She is survived by a niece Diana L. Schroeder and her husband Curtis of Silver Spring, MD; and a nephew William E. Reed and his wife Linda of Northport, NY. She is also survived by 3 grand nieces, Deborah Reed, Kristie Guerra, and Susan Reed; 2 grand nephews, Matthew Schroeder and William S. Reed; a great grand niece Annabelle Reed, and a great grand nephew Carter Reed.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where services will be held on Saturday April 17th, 12 noon. The Rev. Gail Burger, officiating. The family will receive their friends from 11 - 12. Burial in Hurley Cemetery.
