Ambrose Sylvester VanVoorhis

Ambrose S. Am VanVoorhis, age 96, of VanVoorhis Lane, New Salem, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Golden Hill Health Care Center, Kingston. Mr. VanVoorhis was born January 16, 1912 at Yonkers, NY the son of the late Charles and Cora Wolven VanVoorhis. Husband of the late Inda Comstock VanVoorhis, who died June 30, 1998.

He had been employed by Hercules Inc. Port Ewen, NY for many years until his retirement.

He served in the US Army during World War II European Theater of Operations. He was life member of the St. Remy Fire Department, member of American Legion Post #1298, Port Ewen, Klyne Esopus Museum, was a member of Dunwoody Masonic Lodge in Yonkers for over 70 years. He enjoyed wood carving, working with clocks, clock repair and gardening

He is survived by one daughter, Susan L. Long of Centennial, Colorado, a granddaughter, Stephanie Long, a sister in law, Anita VanVoorhis, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Byron, Charles, Leslie and Edwin VanVoorhis

The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 at Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 - 2 pm. Burial will be in St. Remy Rural Cemetery with full military honors by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
