Alexander W. Embree, Jr., age 79, of Route 209, Marbletown died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston. Mr. Embree was born March 20, 1928 at Kingston, NY the son of the late Alexander W. and Clara (Cook) Embree, Sr.. He married Mary Mullady Embree on July 17, 1948 at Kingston, NY. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this July.

In high school he was acive in many clubs, including the acapella chorus, after graduation from high school, he attended Clarkson University, his first venture in business was ice cream on a cart business. He then went to work for the family business, Albany Ave. Garage, Inc., and was later joined by his brother Jim. They were in the auto and truck sales & repair business. Originally they sold and serviced Kaiser - Willys automobiles. They then went into truck sale and service, representing GMC, International Harvester and Jeep. They had also owned and operated the Lawn shop. In addition to the family business, with his brother Jim, they owned and operated Trans Lease of Ulster, and A & J Inc. He was nominated to and voted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.
He was a member of the High Falls Reformed Church and had been a member of the Old Dutch Reformed Church where he had served on the consistory,
He had been a member of Kiwanis Club of Kingston; he had been an alderman in the city of Kingston, during the flood in the early 50's he helped people evacuate from their homes. He was a member of Wiltwyck Country Club, the Callabar Club, had been on the board of Rondout National Bank, served on Ulster BOCES board. Had been on the board of 4H and was a member of the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce. He still served as a fire commissioner in the Marbletown Fire Department,
He was a founding trustee of the Rondout Esopus Land Conservancy, he was a member of Kingston Lodge # 10 F & AM, and most recently his community service was with the Ulster County Shriners "Shepard's Club" which transported children in need to the Shiners Children Hospital in Springfield and Boston, MA.

In addition to his wife, Mary Mullady Embree, three daughters: Fran Wong And Her Husband Fred of Glen Ridge, NJ, Jean Souders And Her Husband Steve of The Woodlands, TX, Gloria Davis of Kingston, NY

Calling hours will be Thursday from 1 - 3 & 5 - 7 at Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY. The funeral will be Thursday at 7:00 pm at Keyser Funeral Service, Inc.,with Rev. Charles Stickley officiating. Spring Burial will be in North Marbletown Cemetery, Marbletown at a time to be announced.
