Alexander J. Banyo, 95, of New Paltz, formerly of Kingston, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Julius & Rose Horvath Banyo. Alexander was an English and Latin teacher in the Kingston School system, retiring in 1984. He was a Supervisor of the Town of Ulster from 1957-1965. He was also a developer of the Green Acres Golf Course in 1963. He is a veteran of the US Army Air Corps, during WWII and holds a Master's Degree from Columbia University. Alexander is survived by his son, John Banyo and his wife Karen of Tuxedo Park, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Alexander was predeceased by his wife, Jean Kraus Banyo, two brothers, John Banyo and Julius Banyo, two sisters, Anna Samec and Helen Vogt. Alexander will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9.
The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church in Kingston.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Woodland Pond in New Paltz and at the Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for the compassionate care they gave to Alexander.
