Alan C. Mortensen, age 79, of DeWitt Lane, Woodstock, NY died suddenly Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston, NY as the result of an automobile accident.

Mr. Mortensen was born July 7, 1928 in Staten Island, NY. The son of the late Christian and Astrid Jensen Mortensen. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Joan Feist Mortensen who died on March 27, 2007.

He was a graduate of New Dorp High School in Staten Island NY, after graduation he served in the US Marine Corp. He was employed by NY Police Department as a Police Officer for 40 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He had worked in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and completed his career as a liaison in the NYPD Employee Relations Unit.

In Staten Island he was a member of the Great Kills Moravian Church, he had been on the board of trustees and had been a Sunday school teacher, had been active in Boy Scout Troop # 3 and had coached Little League.

After retirement he moved to this area to be closer to his family and grandchildren. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He served as an American cancer Society Volunteer for more than 10 years, driving patients to and from their appointments.
He had been an avid golfer and had been a member of Woodstock Country Club, loved walking and gardening. Every year at Christmas he played "Santa Claus" visiting Sophie Finn Elementary School.

He is survived by his loving family, daughters, Karen and her husband David J. Clegg of Woodstock, NY, Amy Mortensen and her husband David Kohlmeister of San Francisco, CA and a son, David A. and his wife Libby Mortensen of State College, PA; grandchildren Jessica and Andrew Clegg, Christian and Elise Mortensen, several nieces and nephews, brother of the late Dr. Frede Mortensen and Donald Mortensen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11am at the St. James United Methodist Church, corner of Fair and Pearl Streets, Kingston, NY with Rev. David Jolly officiating.
