Agatha W. Castiglione, 84, of Ulster Landing, died Saturday evening, January 15, 2011 at the Kingston Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Castiglione was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1944, Our Lady of Victory School of Nursing at Benedictine Hospital, Class of 1947, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse; she then graduated from St. John's University, Brooklyn, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education, Class of 1951. She was a Registered Nurse and Instructor at the Benedictine Hospital School of Nursing, and served on the staff development team, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of St. Colman's R.C. Church, East Kingston; President of the first Parish Council and former lector at St. Coleman's RC Church. She also served on the Town of Ulster Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. With her husband, they established the Ulster Landing Mobil Court Inc. in 1970 and served in various capacities.
She was born January 12, 1927 in Red Hook, to the late William and the late Agatha (Huffner) Grunenwald.
She is survived by her beloved family, her husband Salvatore J. Castiglione, they wed on August 16, 1954, and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past year, her children George Castiglione and his wife Karen of Ulster Landing, Ann Cataldo and her husband Walter Ennaco of Silver Spring, MD and Maria Vertetis and her husband Philip of Gonic, NH Grandchildren Adam Castiglione, Regina Castiglione, Cinthia Ennaco and John Vertetis. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers George and Harold Grunenwald and a sister Pauline Grunenwald.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. The family will receive their friend on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. The procession will form on Thursday at 10 a.m. and proceed to St. Coleman's RC Church where at 11 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
