Giovanna Maria DiMartino

Giovanna "Joanna" DiMartino, 87, of Esopus, passed unexpectedly Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Westchester Medical Center. She was born January 5, 1928 in Rosolini, Sicily, the daughter of the late Carmelo and Teresa Controsceri.


She was the wife of the late Luigi Gino DiMartino; he died on October 27th 1990.


She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church, and had been a seamstress in the local garment industry for many years. She loved to shop, cook, drive her car, and stop at numerous bakeries to get her coffee and danish. But most important was spending time with her loving and caring family.


She is survived by her sons Gino S. DiMartino and Carmelo C. DiMartino and his wife Marie, three granddaughters Nicole T. DiMartino - DeMarco and her husband Daniel, Daniella M. DiMartino and Melanie DiMartino, a step grandson Jason Frahm and his wife Harpur and their children Arden L. Frahm and Jared D. Frahm. A brother Piatro Controsceri and a sister Guisipina Maltese and her husband Tommaso and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Rita Cataudella.


Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen. The family will receive their friends on Sunday from 1 - 4 pm. The procession will form on Monday at 9 am. At 10 am, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
