Christopher Rutgers Knauth

December 15, 1929 — October 23, 2013

Christopher Rutgers Knauth, 83, of Kingston, NY, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at home with his family.

Born Dec. 15, 1929, in New York, NY, he was the only son of Arnold and Wilhelmina de Peyster Knauth.

He is survived by his wife Maria Thereza Knauth, and by thirteen children, Geoffrey Knauth, Susan Ellis, Daniel Knauth, David Knauth, Deanna Yildiz, Dorie-Ann White, Dalinda Bohr, Deahnara Regan, Dorcinda Knauth, Dietrich Knauth, Deidra Knauth, Desmond Knauth, and Devon Knauth. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dorinda. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

Christopher attended Milton Academy, and he always remembered their motto, "Dare to be True." He graduated from Harvard Law School and Harvard University, where he played trumpet in the Harvard band. He served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany after the end of World War II.

He worked for 30 years as an attorney for the New York State Division of Human Rights until his retirement in 2012. He was a Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers fan and an avid lover of poetry. He was a member of the Harvard Club, the Metropolitan Republican Club, the Adirondack Mountain Club and Trinity Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed the men's breakfasts on Wednesday mornings. He enjoyed singing in the Woodstock Reformed Church choir.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at the Woodstock Reformed Church, 16 Tinker St. Woodstock, NY 12498.
